Coalition wobbles as budget fuels leftward shift

Parliamentary leadership changes and budget deliberations reflect tensions within Bulgaria’s governing alliance, according to political observers who debated whether recent disputes signal genuine instability or political theater. Public relations specialist Diana Damyanova warned that excessive socialist influence in spending proposals could push the coalition toward genuine leftist policies, noting Prime Minister Boyko Borisov’s recent emotional statements about matching opposition generosity may foreshadow collapse. She criticized how government operations maintain advantages while private enterprise shoulders economic burdens.

Sociologist Dobromir Zhivkov dismissed the speaker rotation controversy as manufactured drama meant to justify Borisov’s outburst without threatening coalition survival. The analyst told Bulgaria ON AIR that power-sharing partners remain focused on securing funds and planning future budgets rather than calling elections.

Damyanova suggested President Rumen Radev appears ready to launch active political campaigning despite ruling parties blocking opportunities for early voting. Zhivkov noted presidential elections carry potential to reshape political alignments, particularly if Radev establishes his own organization. Such a move could significantly alter the existing balance among established parties.
