Dolly Parton celebrates 52 years of Jolene’s release

Dolly Parton is excited to celebrate the 52nd anniversary of her song “Jolene,” which was released in 1973. She shared a throwback video of herself performing the hit song, captioning it “52 years of ‘Jolene.’” The song is inspired by a real experience when a redhead flirted with her husband, Carl Dean, at a bank after they married. In the song, Dolly asks Jolene, a woman with “flaming locks of auburn hair,” not to take her man.

The title “Jolene” came from a young fan at one of Dolly’s concerts who had red hair and green eyes. Dolly thought her name was so beautiful that she decided to write a song about it.
