Drug-crazed son kills father in prayer, injures cops

A 60-year-old man died after being stabbed by his son during evening prayers at their residence in Puran Bhadurdangi village within Pabna Sadar upazila on Sunday night. Authorities identified the victim as Nizam Pramanik and arrested his 30-year-old son, Mostafa Pramanik, at the scene. The suspect allegedly locked the prayer room door before launching the fatal knife attack.

Officers responding to the emergency detained Mostafa, who then assaulted three sub-inspectors during the arrest. One officer required hospital care at Sujanagar Upazila Health Complex, while two others received initial medical attention. Family members discovered Nizam’s body after forcing entry into the secured room where he had been praying.

Another son told authorities that Mostafa had a history of demanding cash to support substance abuse and had previously attempted violence against other relatives. The surviving son described repeated harassment and property destruction when family members refused monetary requests. Police Station Officer-in-Charge Abdus Salam confirmed that extra personnel were stationed in the community and pledged a complete investigation before pursuing formal charges against the detained suspect.
