Egypt signs deal to digitize heritage and boost site connectivity

Egypt’s Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) and the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities have signed two key protocols to digitize Egypt’s archaeological heritage and improve telecom services at heritage sites. The agreements were signed at the Grand Egyptian Museum by Dr. Amr Talaat and Mr. Sherif Fathi, along with senior officials from both ministries.

The first protocol introduces the “Egypt Digital Heritage Portal Project,” aimed at digitizing Egypt’s archaeological records and artifacts for easy access by researchers and the public. The second protocol focuses on improving mobile coverage and network infrastructure at key archaeological sites and museums to enhance the visitor experience.

A joint executive committee will oversee both projects, ensuring coordination between the ministries. These efforts align with Egypt’s strategy to use digital technology for preserving cultural heritage and boosting tourism.
