Euro offers opportunities, but Bulgaria must stay alert
Lilyana Pavlova, former Vice President of the European Investment Bank, shared her thoughts on the euro during an appearance on BNT’s “The Day Begins,” stating that while the currency is not a cure-all, it does present significant opportunities. However, she cautioned against becoming complacent, emphasizing that the shift to the euro should not lead to relaxation.
Pavlova noted that the government’s campaign to adopt the euro by 2026 is already making progress, and many Bulgarians are beginning to feel more at ease with the change. She believes that, after the euro is introduced, people will quickly realize that the transition will not bring major disruptions.
She also pointed out that price increases occur with or without the euro, and stressed that joining the eurozone is a major chance for Bulgaria. Pavlova concluded by saying that the country must mobilize both politically and economically to seize this opportunity.
