Experts call for carbon market push

Denmark urged Bangladesh to develop trading systems for emissions credits that could attract foreign capital and support environmental programs. Christian Brix Møller spoke on Thursday at an event hosted by his embassy in Dhaka, where officials examined frameworks for the purchase and sale of carbon offsets. The ambassador said his government would help Bangladesh develop the policies needed for such markets, despite Bangladesh producing less than 1% of global emissions.

Experts told participants that selling credits generates funds for projects that reduce greenhouse gas emissions while creating jobs. Mirza Shawkat Ali from the Environment Department said Bangladesh could become a leader among poorer countries by using these mechanisms to finance cleaner development. Government representatives and business leaders discussed how the trading programs would help the country meet its Paris Agreement targets for reducing emissions.
