Gechev predicts BSP collapse, slams Peevski-Borisov power play
Former BSP member Rumen Gechev predicted the party would fail to enter parliament in the upcoming elections after the leadership compromised core principles. The economic minister under Zhan Videnov criticized the Socialists for abandoning promises to avoid coalitions with GERB and Delyan Peevski’s movement. Gechev told Bulgarian National Radio on Tuesday that five BSP ministers prioritize keeping positions over party values, and vote buying in rural areas undermines legitimate elections.
The former lawmaker said BSP members remain principled but feel betrayed by leadership decisions. Gechev noted friends plan to support other parties with stronger platforms, though new political forces may emerge before voting occurs. He described GERB leader Boyko Borisov as humiliated by Peevski, while DPS-New Beginning avoids direct governance to escape accountability despite wielding power. Gechev served 45 years as a BSP member before departing in 2024.
