GERB’s 2026 budget: more debt, bigger salaries, same mess
Bulgaria’s cabinet plans to present its 2026 spending blueprint to lawmakers on Friday, according to government sources. Kostadin Angelov from GERB, who leads the Council of the Joint Management Council, characterized the proposal as the only viable fiscal framework available under current conditions.
The budget includes wage increases for teachers and healthcare workers, Angelov confirmed during a radio interview. He described the plan as striking a necessary balance that preserves both economic and political stability while reflecting present realities. GERB will not halt initiatives designed to boost earnings, he said.
Education remains a top priority alongside renewed emphasis on healthcare, particularly regarding compensation for young physicians and other medical professionals, Angelov stated. The party approached budget negotiations with a commitment to finding an equilibrium that supports these sectors while maintaining fiscal responsibility.
