Gold prices soar by Tk2,000 as jewellers hike rates
Bangladesh’s jewelry trade association raised gold prices by approximately 1,680 taka per bhori on Saturday, bringing the cost to 2,01,775 taka for 11.664 grams. The Standing Committee on Pricing and Price Monitoring of the Bangladesh Jeweller’s Association reached this decision during a weekend gathering, with the adjustment taking effect on Sunday.
Twenty-two-carat gold will sell for 17,299 taka per gram under the revised rates, according to committee chairman Masudur Rahman. Twenty-one-carat pieces carry a 16,512 taka price tag per gram. Eighteen-carat gold was set at 14,153 taka, while traditional varieties will cost 11,761 taka for each gram. The nation saw record-high gold values reach 2,17,382 taka per bhori on Oct. 20.
Silver pricing held steady across all categories. Twenty-two carat silver remains at 364 taka per gram, with 21 carat at 347 taka, 18 carat at 298 taka, and traditional pieces at 223 taka per gram. Customers must pay a government-mandated 5 percent value-added tax, alongside at least a 6 percent crafting fee established by the association. Crafting charges may fluctuate based on complexity and workmanship quality.
