Yunus hails political unity as Bangladesh secures national charter

Bangladesh’s interim leader praised political groups on Saturday for developing a reform blueprint without outside interference. Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus issued a statement commending the National Consensus Commission after the body concluded months of talks that produced the July National Charter and a plan for putting it into practice.

Yunus called the charter a landmark accomplishment that will shape both upcoming elections and the country’s political trajectory. The commission wrapped up operations on Friday after forming in February with a mandate to establish accountable governance structures. Yunus emphasized that Bangladesh resolved its internal challenges independently rather than relying on foreign mediators, contrasting this approach with past political negotiations that brought in United Nations officials and representatives from allied nations.

The chief adviser thanked Vice-Chairman Ali Riaz and other commission members for their work. He warned against forces attempting to splinter national cohesion and urged parties to preserve their collaboration as reform efforts continue. Yunus described the charter as potentially inspiring other countries to create similar frameworks during periods of instability.
