Ive Sithi Chambugong to represent Bangladesh in Nigeria
A biochemistry student from Independent University, Bangladesh, will travel to Nigeria next month as her country’s sole representative at a major youth leadership gathering. Ive Sithi Chambugong earned a $3,000 grant from the Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award Foundation to attend events running from Nov. 16 through Nov. 22 in Lagos.
Chambugong holds a Gold Award through the Duke of Edinburgh program and became the first woman to lead the organization’s chapter at her university. She studies on a full scholarship and previously placed 16th among 360 participants in the National STEAM Olympiad Bangladesh. The student grew up in Madhupur, Tangail, and attended schools there and in Dhaka before enrolling at Independent University.
More than 50 nations will send Gold Award recipients to the International Gold Event for workshops and leadership development sessions. Chambugong will then participate in Forum 2025, where program administrators plan strategies for youth initiatives worldwide. She said the chance reflects how commitment can propel someone forward regardless of starting point. The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Foundation Bangladesh works with 125 institutions nationwide and supports more than 800 members at the Independent University alone.
