Gutsanov vows strict oversight of food aid distribution
Bulgarian Minister of Labor and Social Policy Borislav Gutsanov declared he would not tolerate any misuse in the distribution of food aid to vulnerable groups. During a visit to Blagoevgrad, he inspected deliveries under the “Food and Basic Material Assistance” program and warned that abuse of the system would not be accepted. He stressed that 650,000 people rely on this support and inspections would continue across the country.
The first phase of the program provides hygiene items, pasta, and sugar through 235 distribution points nationwide. Deliveries will run until the end of November, with extensions until 5 December 2025 in Plovdiv and Blagoevgrad. A second phase will follow, offering 15 food items. The Social Assistance Agency prepared recipient lists on time and, by August 2025, aid targets low-income individuals and families eligible for support, including those receiving heating assistance.
Gutsanov thanked the Bulgarian Red Cross and volunteers for their role in the effort. He also highlighted continued funding for key programs like “Home Care” and “Hot Lunch,” which support the most vulnerable. Later, he visited a family-type center for people with disabilities in Blagoevgrad, spoke with residents and staff, and pledged ongoing support for planned improvements.
