Gutsanov weighs options for pensioner Christmas aid

Bulgaria’s Social Minister Borislav Gutsanov has expressed support for providing holiday bonuses to retirees while acknowledging the complexity of establishing permanent legal provisions for such payments. The minister confirmed receiving correspondence from GERB-SDF deputy chairwoman Denitsa Sacheva regarding the matter and has requested detailed financial projections from the National Social Security Institute.

Gutsanov indicated he will collaborate with the Prime Minister, Finance Minister, and other officials to determine feasible funding options for holiday assistance this winter. He emphasized that pensioners represent one of society’s most vulnerable populations and deserve government support.

The minister noted that similar Easter bonuses were distributed earlier in the year, suggesting precedent exists for seasonal assistance programs. He stressed that converting such ad hoc payments into legally mandated benefits requires substantial administrative preparation rather than immediate implementation.
