Denitsa Sacheva calls Bulgaria budget difficult

Bulgaria’s parliament faces severe constraints in crafting a workable budget due to competing demands from multiple political factions, according to Denitsa Sacheva, deputy chairwoman of the GERB-SDF parliamentary group. Speaking at the National Conference on Attractive Professions for a Sustainable Future, she acknowledged that the financial plan has been structured to address various protest movements while securing necessary legislative backing from groups with diverging governance philosophies.

Sacheva indicated that her party intends to modify the automatic linkage between minimum and average wage levels, identifying this mechanism as a major driver of budget pressures. She dismissed the notion that dismissing public employees would generate meaningful savings, noting legal protections prevent rapid workforce reductions and unemployment assistance would offset any cuts. While some unfilled positions might be eliminated, she cautioned that certain government agencies require additional personnel.

The lawmaker emphasized that addressing spending concerns demands carefully considered strategies requiring extended implementation periods rather than immediate fixes.
