Hamas releases first hostages in Gaza ceasefire deal, Israel celebrates

Hamas released seven hostages into the custody of the International Committee of the Red Cross on Monday, marking the first exchange under a ceasefire agreement aimed at ending the two-year conflict between Israel and Hamas in Gaza. The hostages were part of a broader deal in which Hamas will free 20 Israeli hostages in exchange for Israel releasing over 1,900 Palestinian prisoners.

Celebrations erupted in Israel as families and supporters gathered to welcome the freed hostages. In Gaza and the West Bank, Palestinians awaited the return of their detained loved ones.

Despite the progress, challenges remain, with the fate of Gaza’s future governance and the role of Hamas still unresolved.
