Harare signs ERP deal to end fiscal challenges

Harare Mayor, Councillor Jacob Mafume, announced that the City of Harare has officially signed up for the Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system provided by BIQ. During a recent council meeting, he stated that the necessary paperwork has been completed for the system, which aligns with the President’s 10-point plan for municipalities to adopt functional ERPs.

Cllr Mafume explained that the ERP system is crucial for financial tracking, especially in the search for the $200 million that has been a topic of discussion. He mentioned that the previous service provider had taken the city to court to stop the ERP transition, but with the support of the ministry and council procurement, the issue has now been resolved.

He added that despite facing criticism for advocating the ERP, history has proven his decision to be right. Cllr Mafume also stressed the importance of ending internal conflicts, where officials use personal grievances to drag the council into court, which undermines progress. He called for the implementation of the ERP system and the digitalization of all council departments.
