Illegal trade crackdown nets over K1.4 billion

Myanmar authorities seized illegal goods valued at approximately 1.499 billion kyats and arrested 23 people between October 19 and 23. The Illegal Trade Eradication Steering Committee directed operations that confiscated timber, unlicensed fishing vessels and smuggled merchandise across multiple townships.

Teams recovered five boats operating without permits near coastal islands and intercepted vehicles transporting undocumented foodstuffs and consumer goods at checkpoints. Officers also found jade bracelets at Yangon International Airport and agricultural products at Thilawa Port lacking proper documentation.

Enforcement actions targeted violations of forestry regulations, marine fisheries statutes and customs laws. Authorities impounded boats, trucks and motorcycles along with contraband cargo across Tanintharyi Region and Mon State.

The crackdown focused on protecting natural resources and enforcing trade compliance through coordinated inspections at ports, airports and land checkpoints throughout southern Myanmar.
