Myanmar detains 150 Indians in gambling bust
Myanmar police arrested 151 foreign nationals for illegal entry and online fraud operations in Kayin State’s Myawady-Maehtawthalay area. The group consisted of 150 Indian citizens and one South Korean who crossed through neighboring nations such as Thailand.
Officials are processing deportation paperwork under the supervision of Myawady District Administrator U Kaung San Lin and Deputy Director U Myint Bhone from the Immigration Ministry. Authorities documented personal information before coordinating returns with respective governments.
Between January 30 and October 26, Myanmar detained 9,964 unauthorized foreigners. Officials sent 9,339 people back through Thailand after they completed the legal requirements, while 625 remain in custody awaiting transfer.
The suspects allegedly participated in gambling schemes and financial scams. Investigators continue examining evidence to determine the scope of criminal activities before finalizing deportation procedures for those held.
