Myanmar eyes engine tech exchange with China

Energy Minister U Ko Ko Lwin toured Chinese engine and generator factories on Monday to explore technology partnerships with Myanmar manufacturers. The minister proposed establishing local production facilities, exchanging technical expertise and sending Myanmar workers to China for hands-on training programs.

Chinese executives showed the delegation assembly lines, quality testing procedures and maintenance operations for methanol and natural gas engines. The facilities produce power equipment for vehicles, ships and electrical generation systems.

U Ko Ko Lwin identified state factories with proprietary technology as potential partners for Myanmar’s aging power infrastructure. He noted that worn diesel and gas engines require major overhauls, replacement components and technical support to restore efficiency and reduce fuel leakage.
