India and Australia enhance energy cooperation in climate fight
India and Australia agreed to strengthen cooperation in energy efficiency and technologies to combat climate change at the fifth India-Australia Energy Dialogue. The meeting, co-chaired by India’s Power Minister Manohar Lal and Australia’s Climate Change Minister Chris Bowen, focused on global efforts to reach net-zero emissions, energy efficiency, and green hydrogen. The ministers emphasized the importance of secure and resilient energy supply chains and the role of both countries in advancing sustainable energy systems in the Indo-Pacific region.
India has made significant progress in renewable energy, with 50% of its electricity generation capacity now from non-fossil fuel sources, achieving its 2030 target early. The country’s carbon emission intensity has also decreased by 7% since 2014-15, reflecting its commitment to energy security and climate action.
