India denies Trump’s claim of Modi oil conversation
India rejected claims made by former US President Donald Trump on Thursday regarding a telephonic conversation with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Trump had stated that during a phone call, PM Modi assured him that India would stop buying oil from Russia. However, Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal clarified that there was no such conversation between the two leaders, referring to the official statement already issued on the matter.
Trump had also praised PM Modi, calling him a “great man” and referring to India as an “incredible country.” He expressed openness to meeting PM Modi at the upcoming ASEAN Summit in Malaysia, highlighting their strong relationship. Trump’s remarks also included comments about India’s oil purchases from Russia, claiming that PM Modi had assured him that India would soon stop buying Russian oil, which, according to Trump, would help end the ongoing conflict.
