India targets $500 billion electronics industry by 2030

India is setting its sights on a $500 billion electronics manufacturing ecosystem by 2030-31, with the sector booming over the past decade. Domestic electronics production has skyrocketed from Rs 1.9 lakh crore in 2014-15 to Rs 11.3 lakh crore in 2024-25, while exports surged eightfold, jumping from Rs 38,000 crore to Rs 3.27 lakh crore. The sector has also created 25 lakh jobs, fueling both employment and economic growth.

Government initiatives like Make in India, Atmanirbhar Bharat, and the PLI scheme have driven this surge, with foreign direct investment exceeding $4 billion since FY2020–21. India is now the second-largest mobile phone manufacturer, with production soaring from Rs 18,000 crore to Rs 5.45 lakh crore in 2024-25. Mobile exports, led by companies like Apple, skyrocketed 127 times, making India the top smartphone exporter to the U.S. in Q2 FY2025–26.
