Mbare mourns guitarist Ndoro as family burns his belongings
Family members burned the personal belongings of guitarist David Ndoro after his burial on Thursday, and the action sparked controversy in Mbare. Neighbors watched as clothes, blankets, and documents burned shortly after the funeral services ended. Ndoro died alone at age 72 from heart failure at his family home, and workers discovered his decomposed body in a toilet.
His sisters hired residents to destroy items they said contained mold and unpleasant odors. Ndoro’s daughter, Olivia, attempted to rescue Bibles and newspaper articles from the flames. Sister Olivia Makombe defended the cleanup, but she criticized the church for isolating Ndoro from relatives through restrictive teachings.
Church members found Ndoro’s body after he missed services following his last attendance on Oct. 8. The family planned estate distribution for Saturday. Guitarist Mono Mkundu and television personality Amai Rebecca Chisamba attended the burial at Glenforest Cemetery.
