Youth symposium in Harare spotlights entrepreneurs, fights drug abuse

Youth Empowerment Minister Tino Machakaire said the National Youth Symposium will connect young business owners across Zimbabwe when it opens on Tuesday at Glamis Arena in Harare. The three-day event concludes with an awards ceremony on Wednesday, where President Emmerson Mnangagwa will recognize entrepreneurs for their economic contributions. Machakaire toured exhibition booths on Monday, and he said the symposium will help policymakers understand youth business challenges better.

The minister said young people represent 60 percent of Zimbabwe’s population, according to United Nations data. The symposium operates under the theme Empower the Youth and Secure the Future. Government officials will use the platform to develop support programs for emerging enterprises, and they will address drug abuse prevention through partnerships with the Home Affairs Ministry.
