Seven prosecutors on trial as Zimbabwe cracks down on graft
Seven prosecutors face corruption charges in separate courts as Zimbabwe escalates anti-graft efforts, and Prosecutor General Loyce Matanda-Moyo announced the prosecutions on Monday at a strategic planning workshop in Bulawayo. Harare prosecutor Pardon Dziva received an eight-year sentence in June for bribery. Matanda-Moyo said the National Prosecuting Authority applies zero tolerance to corruption within its ranks, and she emphasized that thorough investigations precede all indictments.
The prosecutor general reported 17 convictions in high-profile cases. Authorities secured freezing orders on suspected illicit assets exceeding $15 million, but she criticized slow case preparation that causes courts to release frozen property. Matanda-Moyo called for faster collaboration between the prosecuting authority, the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission, and the police to expedite prosecutions after asset seizures.
