Zimbabwe sends 16 students to Russia for agri-engineering degrees

Higher Education Minister Frederick Shava told 16 students departing for Russia that they must return as engineers and innovators who will advance Zimbabwe’s knowledge economy. The scholars will pursue master’s degrees in agricultural engineering at Don State Technical University starting this academic year.

Shava said on Monday that the program reflects President Mnangagwa’s Education 5.0 model, and it aligns with Vision 2030 economic goals. The minister noted that 17 previous graduates from a similar Russian program returned to work as lecturers and researchers at local institutions.

The scholarship stems from a memorandum signed between the university and the Centre for Education Innovation Research and Development in April 2024. Shava emphasized that the students’ training in agricultural engineering will support mechanization, food security, industrialization, and climate adaptation.
