Messi signs Inter Miami deal to 2028
Lionel Messi will play for Inter Miami through 2028 after signing a contract extension confirmed on Thursday. The 38-year-old Argentine forward expressed satisfaction about continuing his career at the club’s new Freedom Park stadium. His previous deal was set to expire at the end of the 2025 Major League Soccer season.
Co-owner David Beckham praised Messi’s dedication to Miami and American soccer. The World Cup champion joined Inter Miami in 2023 from Paris Saint-Germain and has driven record attendance across the league. Commissioner Don Garber called Messi’s arrival a watershed moment for North American professional soccer.
Messi won 10 Spanish league titles and four Champions League trophies with Barcelona from 2004 to 2021. He captured the World Cup with Argentina in 2022 and has earned the Ballon d’Or eight times. The striker could appear at a record sixth World Cup in 2026.
He scored 29 goals in 28 matches this season and won the Golden Boot award. Messi became the fastest player to reach 40 Major League Soccer goals in 2025. He helped Miami secure third place in the Eastern Conference and advance to the playoffs.
