Minister blames morals not violence

Bulgaria will hire more school psychologists to address rising student aggression, Education Minister Krasimir Valchev announced on Thursday from Kraynici village near Dupnitsa. Schools reflect broader societal violence rather than generate it themselves, and teachers cannot serve as security personnel, Valchev said.

The ministry plans curriculum changes that add classes about virtues and religions to strengthen character development. Educational institutions must focus on teaching values alongside academics, according to the minister.

Teachers lack the capacity to prevent violence that occurs beyond campus grounds. The government seeks to reinforce moral instruction by expanding mental health staff and revising coursework that emphasizes proper conduct.
