Mithali Raj and Raavi Kalpana honoured at ACA-VDCA stadium

The Andhra Cricket Association (ACA) honoured two Indian women’s cricket legends at the ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium in Visakhapatnam on Sunday. A stand was named after former India captain Mithali Raj, while a gate was dedicated to former wicketkeeper Raavi Kalpana, both in recognition of their immense contributions to the sport.

The unveiling took place before India’s ODI World Cup match against Australia, with notable figures in attendance, including ICC Chairman Jay Shah, BCCI President Mithun Manhas, and Andhra Pradesh Minister Nara Lokesh. Mithali Raj herself was present to witness the special moment.

The decision came after Smriti Mandhana raised the issue of the lack of stands named after Indian women cricketers during a chat with Minister Nara Lokesh in August 2025. Mandhana emphasized the importance of such recognitions to honour women’s contributions to the game and inspire future generations.

Mithali Raj, the all-time leading run-scorer in women’s ODIs, retired in 2022 after a stellar career. Kalpana, who played seven ODIs between 2015-2016, has inspired cricketers from her region, including Arundhati Reddy and S Meghana.
