Mohammed Shami says he’s fully fit, ready for Bengal return
Ahead of Bengal’s Ranji Trophy season opener against Uttarakhand at Eden Gardens, pacer Mohammed Shami assured that he is fully fit and ready to play. He emphasized that his selection for India’s upcoming tour of Australia is out of his hands, and his focus remains on staying prepared for whenever opportunities arise.
Shami clarified that his fitness is not an issue, stating that if he can play four-day matches, he is ready for 50-over games as well. He explained that his job is to prepare and perform, leaving the decision-making to the selectors and management. Shami also expressed that it is not his responsibility to update the selectors about his fitness status.
Having missed part of last season due to injury, Shami has used the break to fully recover and regain his rhythm through consistent practice. He emphasized the importance of returning when fully fit, rather than rushing back. He also reflected on India’s pace depth, stating that team success is the priority over individual ambitions.
Shami expressed confidence in Bengal’s strong bowling attack and his own fitness, noting that he has been practicing regularly, bowling long spells, and feeling fit without any injury concerns. He is hopeful for good performances in the upcoming matches.
