Morocco’s U-20s win World Cup as King Mohammed VI hails heroes
Morocco captured its first under-20 World Cup title on Monday after defeating Argentina 2-0 at Estadio Nacional Julio Martinez Pradanos in Santiago. Yassir Zabiri scored both goals for the Atlas Lions, and he opened the scoring in the 12th minute with a free kick before adding his second goal in the 29th minute. King Mohammed VI praised the team’s achievement through the official Moroccan news agency MAP, and he called the victory unprecedented in the nation’s football history.
The North African squad became the second African team to win the tournament after Ghana claimed the title in 2009. Morocco advanced through the knockout rounds with victories over South Korea, the United States, and France before meeting Argentina in the final. Zabiri earned the Silver Ball award as the competition’s second-best player, while teammate Othamane Maamma received recognition as the tournament’s top performer.
