MPs to weigh bus rule change, sports law, loan deal
Bulgaria’s parliament is set to vote on legislation that would remove the requirement for intercity bus operators to use official stations in four specific municipalities where administrative centers lie outside their borders. The proposed amendment to the Road Transport Act would affect Dobrichka, Maritsa, Rodopi and Tundzha municipalities, encompassing 151 communities total. These areas struggle to attract carriers because routes generate little revenue, yet buses remain the sole transportation option for many residents.
Lawmakers from GERB-SDF, DPS-New Beginning, BSP and ITN jointly introduced the measure. Parliament will also consider procedural guidelines for selecting a new director general at the Bulgarian Telegraph Agency. Additional items on the legislative calendar include initial debate on fresh legislation addressing safety and security at sporting events, brought forward by GERB-SDF representatives.
Final approval is expected for modifications to laws governing electronic communications and financial instruments markets. Legislators must ratify a framework agreement securing 250 million euros from the Council of Europe Development Bank.
