NBR expands Customs and VAT wings, adds 3,600 jobs
The National Board of Revenue (NBR) has launched a major reform to expand its Customs and VAT departments, aiming to improve revenue collection and widen the tax base. A total of 12 new units have been created, including 373 cadre posts and 3,224 non-cadre positions. The reform, approved by various government divisions, will be implemented in three phases, with the establishment of new VAT commissionerates, customs houses, and specialized offices. The restructuring aims to enhance the efficiency of the tax system, promote self-reliance, and stimulate economic growth by improving service delivery and facilitating trade.
