Ninova slams 2026 budget, says it hurts workers most

Kornelia Ninova, leader of Unruly Bulgaria, has rejected claims circulating online that the 2026 budget reflects left-wing priorities, stating there is nothing progressive about the plan. She argued that the proposed budget will negatively impact working individuals, who face higher social security contributions and frozen food voucher levels. Rising living costs, such as a reported 20 percent increase in food prices, combined with stagnant support for working families, have led Ninova to warn of deepening hardship.

Ninova further contended that the budget does not address social inequality. While pensioners will see only a modest annual increase, pay for members of parliament and senior officials is set to rise automatically every quarter, with extra funds reserved to ensure these raises. Directors of state-run firms would also receive substantial monthly compensation. Ninova criticized the government for policies she says burden small businesses while sparing banks and major corporations from higher taxes, leaving financial transactions and large profits largely untaxed. She also expressed disappointment that the budget fails to introduce new benefits for young people, students, or families, and questioned how an increased dividend tax could result in lower projected revenues.
