Nirmala Sitharaman launches agro-processing unit in Raichur
Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman assured farmers of full support to boost agricultural income as she inaugurated the Farmers Training and Common Facility Centre and a new agro-processing unit in Raichur on Thursday. She highlighted several initiatives, including soil health cards, fertilizers, financial assistance, and higher MSP for food grains and pulses.
Sitharaman emphasized that the new centre would help farmers get better prices, improve produce quality, reduce reliance on middlemen, and empower women. Raichur, a major pulse production region, will benefit from the new processing unit, which can handle 133 metric tonnes of tur, 100 metric tonnes of chickpeas, and 76 metric tonnes of mixed pulses per year.
This initiative aims to strengthen the pulse value chain, promote farmer-producer organizations (FPOs), and support sustainable rural development. The finance minister also engaged with interns of the Prime Minister Internship Scheme in Hampi, offering guidance and encouragement for their careers.
