Nurul Izzah urges expert consultation on corporal punishment debate
PKR deputy president Nurul Izzah Anwar said Malaysia should consult experts before bringing back corporal punishment in schools. She shared this after paying her respects to Yap Shing Xuen, a 16-year-old girl who was fatally stabbed by a schoolmate.
Nurul Izzah said the final decision lies with the government. Her father, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, had suggested that teachers could use caning under strict conditions.
She emphasized the importance of expert opinions to ensure safe schools and a safe environment for students. Nurul Izzah added that it is a complex issue that requires input from many people.
