Family extorted after road incident near Menora Tunnel

A family traveling through the Menora Tunnel was allegedly followed and extorted early on Wednesday, with video footage spreading on social media.

Perak’s deputy police chief Mohammad Azlin Sadari said the incident started when the victim’s car overtook a lorry near the tunnel. The victim, a 60-year-old driver, said the suspects followed him to the Tapah rest area, where they stopped him and demanded money.

In the viral video, a car blocks the victim’s vehicle while another SUV follows closely, with a family member shouting that they were being robbed. The suspects, two men and two women, claimed their child fell due to the victim’s driving and asked for RM180.

Police are investigating the case for extortion and have gathered details to track down the suspects. They remind drivers to stay calm and report incidents to the police.
