Pakistan orders Afghan migrants to vacate homes and shops in Quetta
Pakistani authorities have ordered Afghan migrants in Quetta to leave their homes and shops within a week. Property owners renting to Afghan nationals have also been given seven days to clear their properties. After the deadline, enforcement teams will inspect the area, and fines or arrests will follow if the order is not followed.
This action is part of a crackdown on Afghan migrants without legal documents. It follows violent clashes between Pakistani forces and Taliban fighters at the Spin Boldak border, which led to a 48-hour ceasefire between the two countries. Rights groups have linked the crackdown to rising political and military tensions, and Afghan refugees in Pakistan report increased harassment and evictions by police. Many Afghans fear deportation or detention without valid documents.
