Parliament backs Lukoil sale controls
Bulgarian lawmakers approved legislation on Friday requiring government authorization before the Russian oil company Lukoil can sell its assets within the country. Parliament passed the second reading with 119 votes after National Assembly Speaker Natalia Kiselova called for urgent consideration to protect strategic infrastructure. The State Agency for National Security must review and approve any transaction involving Lukoil Bulgaria, Lukoil Neftochim Burgas refinery, Lukoil Aviation Bulgaria and Sustainable Energy Supply.
The measure extends to subsidiaries registered in Bulgaria or third countries connected to the Russian parent company. Properties and equipment used for petroleum processing, production, storage and distribution require similar screening. Deputies from four political coalitions introduced the amendments after first-reading approval in early October with 114 supporting votes.
