Plovdiv taxi prices rise as new rates take effect

Taxi fares in Plovdiv have risen, with daytime rates reaching 1.37 leva per kilometer and nighttime charges climbing to 1.56 leva. The base fare has nearly doubled from 0.25 leva to 0.49 leva, representing increases between 18 and 27 stotinki across different components.

Diyan Stanev, who chairs the Taxi Drivers Association in Plovdiv, attributed the adjustment to inflation rather than eurozone entry preparations. He noted that drivers will see turnover gains of approximately 10 percent, though expenses consume substantial portions before reaching net income.

Municipal Council approval was unnecessary because revised tariffs remain within ordinance limits. Most taxis operating in Plovdiv have already installed euro-compatible meters, with roughly 80 percent of vehicles equipped for the currency transition.
