PM Modi credits reforms for India’s rise to top 5 global economies

Prime Minister Narendra Modi highlighted India’s remarkable economic transformation at the NDTV World Summit 2025. He noted that before 2014, India was part of the “Fragile Five” economies, but reforms across various sectors have helped the country emerge as one of the world’s top five economies. Modi praised the banking sector reforms, stating that the Jan Dhan accounts opened in mission mode have democratized banking, reaching millions who were previously unbanked.

He also emphasized the impact of income tax and GST reforms, which have saved Rs 2.5 lakh crore, boosted sales during the festive season, and reduced costs for consumers and producers. Modi lauded the success of India’s indigenous 4G technology, which has improved connectivity, particularly in rural areas, and positioned India as a leader in global digital transactions with UPI.
