PM Modi mourns former Kenyan PM Raila Odinga’s death

Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his sorrow over the death of former Kenyan Prime Minister Raila Odinga, who passed away at 80 after suffering a heart attack during a morning walk in Koothattukulam, Kerala. PM Modi remembered Odinga as a “cherished friend of India” and recalled their association dating back to his tenure as Gujarat’s Chief Minister.

Odinga, who had come to Kerala for Ayurvedic treatment, collapsed during his morning walk and was rushed to a hospital but could not be revived. PM Modi praised Odinga’s affection for India, particularly his admiration for Ayurveda, and offered condolences to his family, friends, and the people of Kenya.

A significant figure in Kenyan politics, Odinga served as Prime Minister from 2008 to 2013 and was central in national reconciliation efforts. His contributions to Kenya’s democracy and political reforms are widely recognized. The Kenyan Embassy is coordinating with local authorities for his body.
