Punjab moves to ban TLP, crack down on illegal weapons

The Punjab government has recommended banning Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) after violent protests by the group. At a meeting led by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, the government approved tough measures. Those causing violence, spreading hatred, or breaking laws will be arrested. TLP leaders and workers responsible for deaths and property damage will face anti-terrorism trials, and their movement will be restricted under the Anti-Terrorism Act.

The government plans to seize TLP’s assets, shut down their social media, and freeze bank accounts. It also targets banning their posters and advertisements. The crackdown follows recent unrest, with violent clashes between TLP protesters and police, leading to deaths and injuries. The government also aims to bring undocumented Afghan nationals into the tax system and target illegal weapons.
