India marks 135th Lalon anniversary with tribute to Farida Parveen

On Thursday, 16 October, the Indian High Commission, through the Indira Gandhi Cultural Centre, held a musical event called “Lalon Sandhya” to mark Fakir Lalon Shah’s 135th death anniversary. The program, held at the Liberation War Museum Auditorium, also honored Farida Parveen, a legendary singer of Lalon’s songs. The event drew many artists, scholars, music lovers, and people from various backgrounds.

The evening paid tribute to Lalon, a poet and philosopher who spread messages of unity, peace, and harmony. His songs continue to inspire both India and Bangladesh. Farida Parveen was remembered for her remarkable contributions to Lalon’s music, bridging cultural ties between the two countries.

The event featured performances of Lalon’s songs, including flute music by Gazi Abdul Hakim and renditions by Beauty. Performers like Chandana Majumdar and Kiran Chandra Roy kept the Lalon tradition alive with their soulful renditions. The night ended with a lively performance by Band Lalon, showing Lalon’s lasting influence on modern music.
