Rights groups demand action on Beebarg Baloch’s health

Human rights organizations have raised serious concerns over the deteriorating health and unlawful detention of Beebarg Baloch, a paralyzed human rights defender and leader of the Baloch Yakjehti Committee (BYC), who has been imprisoned in Pakistan for months. Beebarg recently underwent surgery after prolonged neglect, but Pakistani authorities reportedly plan to return him to jail immediately without proper medical observation or rehabilitation.

The BYC stated that Beebarg’s condition worsened due to poor medical care, leading to severe muscle atrophy, deep vein thrombosis, and a painful infection. His situation put him at high risk of kidney failure and septicaemia. The organization condemned the authorities’ disregard for his health and legal rights.

Paank, the Baloch National Movement’s Human Rights Department, called the denial of medical care cruel and degrading, and highlighted that Beebarg’s continued detention without proper charges violates international human rights law. They urged the UN, Amnesty International, and the global community to intervene and demand action from Pakistan.
