Ruto reveals Raila’s frustration over Kenya’s slow progress
Kenyan President William Ruto said the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga expressed frustration about the nation’s development lag behind countries such as South Korea, Singapore, and Malaysia. Ruto spoke on Mashujaa Day in Kitui County and recalled conversations with Odinga about leadership priorities focused on future generations rather than electoral cycles. The president outlined plans to achieve first-world status through food security initiatives, manufacturing expansion, and infrastructure projects.
Ruto announced plans to modernize agriculture by irrigating 2 million acres and constructing 50 dams nationwide. He warned that Kenya spends more than 500 billion shillings annually on food imports and described the dependency as economically unsustainable. Odinga died on Wednesday in India and was buried on Oct. 19, 2025, at his home in Kang’o ka Jaramogi, Bondo, Siaya County.
