Sabah celebrates court victory over 40 percent revenue rights

The Sabah government praised the High Court’s decision that confirmed the state’s right to 40 percent of federal revenue. Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor called the ruling a long-awaited recognition of Sabah’s rights under the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63).

The court declared that the 40 percent special grant is a constitutional right, not negotiable. The federal and state governments were ordered to review the amount owed within 90 days and settle it within 180 days.

Hajiji emphasized that the state has persistently pursued this issue and hoped the federal government would honor the agreement. He also thanked the Sabah Law Society for their efforts in bringing the matter to court.
