Sabah law group warns against federal appeal over 40 percent revenue ruling

The Sabah Law Society (SLS) has asked the federal government not to appeal the High Court’s decision that confirmed Sabah’s right to 40 percent of federal revenue. The court ruled that the special grant to Sabah is a constitutional right, not something to be negotiated.

Justice Datuk Celestina Stuel Galid ordered both the Federal and Sabah governments to review the matter within 90 days and settle the amount owed in 180 days. The ruling also recognized that Sabah is owed arrears from 1974 to 2021.

Datuk Roger Chin of the SLS said any appeal would break trust and go against past promises. He called the ruling a win for Sabah and Malaysia as a whole.
