Sibenik Iskra shipyard to build largest hybrid dock

Šibenik-based Iskra shipyard has secured a contract to build what will become the region’s largest hybrid floating dock as part of a 30 million euro strategic modernization program. The facility will measure 110 meters in length with a capacity to handle vessels weighing up to 4,000 tons.

Roko Vuletić, who serves as board president for the Croatian shipbuilder, finalized the agreement with Danail Slavov from Terem Shipyard Flotski Arsenal in Varna, Bulgaria. The Bulgarian facility received the construction assignment for the project designed by the Turkish firm Norden Shipdesign House.

Completion is scheduled for spring 2027. Once operational, the dock will enable Iskra to service nearly all Jadrolinija ferries, yachts exceeding 70 meters, and new Croatian Navy ships. The concrete pontoon structure features seven sections with double-shell steel towers and a hybrid energy system. The investment follows a government decision extending Iskra’s maritime domain concession through 2054, positioning the yard as a Mediterranean center for environmentally conscious shipbuilding and repair services.
