Croatian Hollywood project charts nation’s film legacy

A comprehensive initiative known as Croatian Hollywood aims to spotlight the extensive history of international film productions shot throughout Croatia. Directors Bruno Grgurić and Darko Duda developed the concept after filmmaker Đelo Hadžiselimović described Croatia as a miniature version of Hollywood seven years ago, prompting them to expand their original documentary series plan into a much larger undertaking.

The initiative will establish information boards with QR codes at significant filming sites across the country. Visitors scanning these codes can view specific scenes captured at each location and navigate to additional filming spots based on geographic proximity or thematic connections between productions. Many international films have used Croatian settings since the 1950s, including several blockbusters and Academy Award winners, though most remain relatively unknown to the public.

The effort involves collaboration among film industry professionals, historians, and technical advisors who contributed to various productions over the decades. Organizers hope to stimulate cultural tourism while reconnecting audiences with cinematic heritage by linking historical filming locations to contemporary public interest.
